The Offshore Investor

In recent times exchange controls in South Africa have relaxed, making offshore investment for individuals and pension funds a viable opportunity. Value Portfolio Managers recognised this and explored how direct investment offshore could best be made possible for our clients. Direct investment into international shares offers the opportunity to grow a portfolio with a specific focus on selected offshore opportunities.

We made a conscious decision to invest in our expertise and capabilities to give our clients the best advice, access and transparency in their offshore investments. Our research supported the merit and availability of global share opportunities and prompted us to build a platform for broader offshore exposure through a UCIT structure — a collective investment vehicle under EU legislation that provides a high level of investor protection and accountability, registered in Luxembourg.

After seven years of research and five years of concurrent direct investment experience, we launched The Offshore Fund in February 2012. Value Portfolio Managers is the investment manager, responsible for share selection and allocation. The Fund holds between 30 and 40 companies listed on the New York, London and other European exchanges — chosen primarily for strong brands, sound business models and compelling themes, bought at the right time and price.
